FAQs
What if my child is not confident in English?
That is totally fine and actually a great reason to join. This program focuses on real use of English, not textbook tests. We do not require any specific level. We truly believe that the first step in learning English is that feeling of “I did it” and we build the whole experience around helping students gain that kind of confidence.
When does the 6 night 7 day program finish?
The final day is Saturday, when we hold a small graduation and farewell gathering.
How are the classes organised?
Depending on the time of year and how many students we have, we may not always be able to split by grade or level. But not to worry, even in those cases our classes stay small so each student gets plenty of support and speaking time. No matter the setup, we always make sure students are learning in a fun and encouraging environment.
Can parents join the classes or day tours?
Parents are more than welcome to observe classes. We schedule school visits for parents, which is a great opportunity to personally see and experience the schools in Brisbane. Please note that there will be an extra cost. If you would like to join any part of the program, just let us know in advance, and we will do our best to arrange it.
What kind of activities do you do outside the classroom?
Our out-of-class activities are all about putting English into action. We might go shopping together and have students try speaking with store staff in real situations. There are also chances to chat with local people. These activities are designed to build real confidence and give students that amazing feeling of “I did it” when their English gets understood.
Where do the day tours go?
Our day tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays change week to week. Some weeks we visit the zoo, other times it might be a theme park or the Gold Coast. Once we know how many people are joining that week, we will let you know the final destination.
Which hotel will we stay at?
We work with quality four star hotels such as Amora Hotel Brisbane and Holiday Inn Express. Depending on availability and the season, we will arrange one of these for your stay. Both are located right in the heart of Brisbane and offer a safe and comfortable environment for families.
Where are the English classes held?
Lessons will take place either in a function room inside the hotel or at a nearby venue. If needed, we can organise a bus for smooth and safe transport. You can rest assured that everything is close and well managed.
What facilities are available at the hotel?
Amora Hotel Brisbane offers a range of facilities including a swimming pool, gym, sauna, restaurant and café. Guests are welcome to use these during their stay. While your child is in class or doing activities, parents can relax by the pool or enjoy quiet time in the hotel. Holiday Inn Express also provides comfortable facilities such as a fitness centre for a pleasant stay.
How does the room setup work for families?
The program fee covers one adult and one child, but we can arrange larger rooms to suit the needs of families. In addition to standard twin rooms, we can also organise connecting rooms or other spacious options for an extra fee. All rooms come with free WiFi, a private bathroom, and a TV to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
What is breakfast like at the hotel?
A buffet breakfast is served each morning in the hotel restaurant. There is a great variety to choose from, including Western-style dishes, fresh fruit, bread, and more. It is the perfect way to start the day. If you have any allergies or dietary needs, just let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.
What level of English does my child need to join?
There is no minimum English level required. Our program focuses on using real English in real situations. Whether your child is a complete beginner or already has some experience, they are more than welcome. The goal is to help each child build confidence by having fun with English and experiencing those great “I did it” moments through practical activities.
Do parents need to accompany their child to and from class every day?
Yes, for safety reasons we require that a parent brings and picks up their child each day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
What type of visa do we need to participate?
This is a Junior Holiday Program, so a Visitor Visa is all that is needed. Both the parent and the child must have their own visa before travelling.
Can children use mobile phones during the program?
To help students stay focused on learning and activities, mobile phone use is not allowed during class or tours. In case of emergency, our program staff will assist with communication so you can always stay connected if needed.
What happens if my child gets sick or injured during the program?
All participants must have travel insurance. If your child becomes unwell or injured, our staff will work closely with you and make immediate arrangements to get medical attention. We also assist with contacting the insurance company if needed.
Can you accommodate food allergies or special dietary needs?
Yes, we can. Please let us know all allergy or dietary details when you apply, using the form provided. We will do our best to coordinate with the hotel and meal providers to accommodate your needs. In some cases, there may be limitations or extra costs, depending on the request.
What is the weather like in Brisbane and what should we wear?
Brisbane has a subtropical climate and stays warm throughout the year, but each season has its own features.
- Summer (December to February):
It is hot and humid, and short tropical downpours are common. The sun can be strong, so hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are must haves. Light, breathable clothing is best. - Winter (June to August): Days are usually mild and pleasant, but mornings and evenings can get chilly. We recommend layers like long sleeves, cardigans or light jackets.
- Year round: Sun protection is important no matter the season.
How do we get around Brisbane?
Brisbane has a great public transport system including buses, trains and ferries like the CityCat. All major stations and stops are easy to reach from our partner hotels. You can get around the city quickly and easily using these options.
What is the 50 cent fare we’ve heard about?
Within the city, there are special services like the City Loop and the Spring Hill Loop, which allow you to travel between selected stops for just 50 cents or even for free. These are great for exploring central Brisbane and nearby Spring Hill. You can tap on with Apple Pay and other contactless payments, which makes it super easy to use.
Should we use cash or card while staying in Brisbane?
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Australia, even for small purchases. You can pay with a card at most shops, restaurants and transport stations. There is no need to carry large amounts of cash. Still, having a small amount of Australian dollars is helpful for things like markets, small shops or unexpected situations.
How is the WiFi situation in Brisbane?
Your hotel stay includes free WiFi in guest rooms and common areas like the lobby. Around Brisbane, free WiFi is also available at places like Queen Street Mall, the public library, some cafés and major shopping centres. As long as you have your smartphone or tablet with you, staying connected will be easy.
How close is the hotel to Queen Street Mall and Central Station?
Both Amora Hotel Brisbane and Holiday Inn Express are located in the city centre. You can walk to Queen Street Mall or Central Station, or take a quick ride on public transport. Queen Street Mall is the heart of shopping and dining in Brisbane, and Central Station is a major transport hub for getting around the city and beyond.
